Contact UsThe aim of Shard’s Alternative Asset group is to identify non-traditional investment opportunities that balance risks versus returns, are decorrelated from the traditional financial asset markets and are backed by real assets.
The strategy is spearheaded by Bill Blain, an experienced debt capital markets specialist with a background in securitisation and financial institutions.
Bill’s experience of Alternatives includes investments into transport, infrastrucure, project finance, renewables, tech, securitised lending and receivables, SMEs, trade finance and property.
Among Shard Capital’s objective in the Alternative Markets is to create flow; assisting issuers to launch alternative financings, finding co-investors for funds active in the markets and supporting liquidity by finding buyers for complex secondary alternative assets.
Our investment clients are all institutional. Shard Capital’s coverage of the market has taught us every investor has different aims and objectives. We target each deal towards the most likely institutional buyers.

Typically, we work with firms looking to raise more than £15m on a private placement basis in the form of senior, secured or preferred debt and in equity to finance growth, specific assets or a particular project.
Shard Capital can arrange smaller investments for institutional investors in Alternative Assets of between £1m – £5m.
